2024 Super League Man of Steel shortlist announced with three contenders

Super League has confirmed the three players who have made the final shortlist for this year’s Man of Steel award.

Hull KR half-back Mikey Lewis, Salford Red Devils man Marc Sneyd and Warrington Wolves number one Matt Dufty are the men in the running for the award, with the winner set to be crowned next Tuesday night (October 8) at Rugby League’s Awards Night in Leeds.

The trio have played key roles across the Super League campaign with Sneyd taking his Salford side to fourth in the Super League table before the Red Devils’ play-off defeat to Leigh Leopards last week.

Lewis, who is the youngest player on the shortlist, has thrilled in the red and white of Hull KR, with his performances being one of the key reasons why Willie Peters’ side are now just 80 minutes from an Old Trafford Grand Final.

In order to reach the showpiece event, though, they will have to overcome Dufty’s Warrington, who saw off St Helens in golden point extra time last Saturday to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

The trio have been the most dangerous players in the top flight this season and their stats back that up with Lewis racking up 43 try involvements, including 19 tries and 24 assists, while Dufty has touched down 17 times and assisted 19 more. Sneyd boast 22 assists, with his kicking game superior to his competition.

The players occupied the top three positions on the Man of Steel leaderboard this season, with a panel of former players handing out points for performances over the course of the campaign.

Sneyd’s Salford have the richest recent history of the three clubs, with Jackson Hastings (2019) and Brodie Croft (2022) picking up award recently. Warrington have had two previous winners, with Jonathon Davies winning in 1994 and Ken Kelly in 1981.

Lewis would be the Robins’ first winner since Gavin Miller in 1986, though.
