2022 Challenge Cup semi-finals confirmed

The Challenge Cup semi-finals in 2022 have now been confirmed.

Set to be a part of a triple header at Elland Road on May 7th alongside the women’s Challenge Cup final, we now know who will play who when the day comes around except for the winner of Wakefield-Wigan as the two teams tussle in an engaging quarter-final which is 18-6 to the Warriors after some great counter attacking rugby from the Warriors. Tries from Jai Field (2) and Ethan Havard have the Cherry and Whites in front whilst young Wakefield winger Lewis Murphy has shone with a try and a try saving tackle in place of the missing Tom Johnstone.

Whoever does win this superb game will meet cup holders and Super League Champions St Helens meaning we could see a St Helens-Wigan derby at Elland Road. It does mean the wait to see them meet in the final goes on with the two not butting heads in a cup final since 2004.

On the flip side it does mean one of Hull KR and Huddersfield will get to play in the final. Hull KR haven’t won the competition since 1980 and Huddersfield’s wait has been even longer with the Giants not tasting success in the cup since 1953 so one side will have the chance to end that wait in 2022.

Both intriguing semi-finals, it should be a great day of rugby come May 7th.
