Super League clubs are getting themselves ready for the start of the 2026 season which gets underway in two months’ time.
Recruitment has been completed for the most part but some clubs are still adding to their squads here and there, particularly the newly promoted outfits who are pushing to add Super League quality to their rosters.
Those sides will be constantly assessing who is out there and there are a number of players without deals for 2026 still after being released by Super League clubs.
Here’s a look at those free agents still looking for a new club after being released by top flight outfits.
Aidan McGowan
Released by Huddersfield Giants at the end of the season, McGowan is still looking for a new club. He made 17 appearances for the Giants and spent a period of time on loan at Batley Bulldogs last season. He has been working as a PT over the last few months.
Brad Dwyer
The hooker has reached the end of his deal with Leigh Leopards and where he will be playing next season is still up in the air but he will feel as though he still has plenty left to offer in Super League.
Ashton Golding
Golding was released by Huddersfield last month by mutual consent, bringing an end to five years at the club. His next steps remain unknown.
Jack Walker
The former Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC full-back penned a short-term deal with Salford Red Devils last season and had an agreement in place for 2026. However, with the Red Devils being wound up, he is now without a club.
Zac Bardsley-Rowe
The youngster was released without the offer of a new deal by Warrington Wolves this autumn. He never played first-team for the Wolves but has picked up experience with Widnes Vikings, North Wales Crusaders and London Broncos.
Will Roberts
The former St Helens man has been linked with a move to York Knights but nothing has been confirmed on that front.
Lachlan Fitzgibbon
Another to leave Warrington Wolves, Fitzgibbon was released by the club after making 41 appearances in two seasons. A move back to Australia has been touted but nothing has been confirmed.
Bayley Sironen
Sironen parted ways with Catalans Dragons at the end of the Super League season and has been linked with a move to St Helens to play alongside his brother. However, the 28-year-old’s next step in the game is yet to be confirmed.
Liam Watts
The veteran left Hull FC after a making eight appearances during his second spell with the club. However, at the age of 35, it remains to be seen if he will play on
Jack Darbyshire
The outside back has left the Leopards after spending just two seasons at Leigh Sports Village. He made five appearances for Rochdale Hornets and Salford last season but he is yet to land a contract for 2026.
James Farrar
The former Hull KR man has left York Knights are spending just one season with the club.
Ethan Clark-Wood
Made one appearance for Leeds Rhinos during his season at the club back in March. He was released without a deal and hasn’t been picked up yet.
Tex Hoy
Hoy left Castleford Tigers last month to return to Australia. He spent a season and a half with the Tigers.
Isaac Shaw
The 23-year-old was another to pen a short-term deal with Salford after his spell with Wakefield Trinity. He made three appearances off the bench for the Red Devils
Nolan Tupaea
Another to leave Warrington Wolves, Tupaea spent time at Keighley Cougars and Halifax Panthers on loan last season but couldn’t do enough to earn a new deal at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Jack Potter
Potter joined York Knights from Hull KR in 2023, but he made just three appearances for the club before being released over the off-season.
Alec Tuitavake
Derek Beaumont confirmed Tuitavake had left the club in a Facebook post last month to return down under. He made 24 appearances and scored three tries for the club.
Lucas Green
Green was another cut loose by Warrington Wolves at the end of the season. He made seven appearances for the Wolves during his time at the club but spent the majority of last season with Keighley Cougars. He has also represented Bradford Bulls, Swinton Lions, North Wales Crusaders and Widnes Vikings.
