Manly Sea Eagles forward Matt Lodge could find his way to Super League after rejecting a deal with the NRL club.
Reports down under from The Courier Mail have reported that Lodge has knocked back an offer of around $150,000 per season, which approximately converts to £77,000.
The club are believed to want to keep the 29-year-old but he is reportedly ‘unlikely’ to agree to terms and is instead considering other options, which also includes Super League.
As a prop, Lodge is approaching the prime of his career but injuries have hampered him in recent seasons with both a ruptured ACL and a bicep injury playing havoc with recent campaigns.
That has led to him making just 12 appearances across the past two seasons with the Sea Eagles, who he had initially joined on a ‘train-and-trial’ deal worth around $1,000 per week. He was later promoted but it seems that his time to exit is now and Super League is an option.
Manly prop offered to Super League
As it stands, it’s believed that no clubs in Super League have shown an interest in Lodge but the prop had made interesting comments about his future.
Lodge had explained his love for the club but unwillingness to sign on the reported two-year $150,000 per season deal. It’s unclear if he wanted more finances or more stability, given his recent injury issues.
He could perhaps find that in Super League and speaking recently to the media, explained: “It’s up in the air (where I end up) because I am not signed and the club (Manly) was talking about trying to make some room. I love it here. (But) at the end of the day people have got to understand I have four kids and have to pay the bills.
“I had a team in juniors and I played there my whole life. But this is different, it puts food on the table for the family and we put our bodies through a lot.”
