Wigan sign NRL forward

Joe Greenwood try

Wigan Warriors have announced the immediate signing of back-rower Joe Greenwood from the Gold Coast Titans.

Greenwood, 25, moved to Australia after an impressive spell at St. Helens where he made 77 appearances in the ‘red v’. Whilst at Gold Coast, the Englishman made 22 appearances scoring 4 tries.

Greenwood commented:
“I am really pleased to have signed a long-term deal for Wigan and to move on to the next chapter in my career. Wigan is a massive club and speaking a few times to Ian Lenagan and Kris Radlinski I felt it was the right decision to make and a great opportunity for me. I can’t wait to get over there and get stuck into the business end of the season.”

Wigan will look to Greenwood to provide a strength in depth, in an already impressive back-row, after the departure of Joel Tomkins by mutual consent.

Wigan’s executive director, Kris Radlinski, said:

“We have been engaged in discussions with Joe and his representatives for a good few weeks now but last week, negotiations progressed quickly and we are now in a position to announce him signing for Wigan.

“At 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 110kgs he is a big athlete who always caused us problems when he played for St. Helens and I’m very excited to see him in a Wigan shirt. Joe is a great addition to our squad and we look forward to welcoming him here.

“We have not got an arrival date yet as Joe has to sort out a few things in Australia but we anticipate that he will be with us towards the end of the month.

“We would like to thank Phil Moss from the Gold Coast Titans who helped us get this deal turned around and has been great to work with.”

Joe will be available for selection upon his return to England where he will pull on the cherry and white jersey for the first time, to make his 100th career appearance.
