Widnes Vikings v Salford Red Devils: Preview

Warrington Wolves 12-38 Salford Red Devils

The Select Security Stadium plays host to the Widnes Vikings and Salford Red Devils this Friday in a crucial match for both teams.

Widnes once again enter the game off the back of a defeat, this time away against Hull where they led early but eventually lost 32-12 to the Airlie Birds. Salford will be in buoyant mood after a fantastic victory against the Castleford Tigers, thanks to a late drop goal from Gareth O’Brien.

The Red Devils are already six places ahead of their opponents with the Vikings only above the bottom thanks to Warrington’s poor form. Denis Betts’ side are in search of their first win of the season and find themselves on just one draw and four losses in the league.

Ian Watson’s Salford have been competitive in every game this season and the club’s CEO Ian Blease has asked fans to be in full voice as they travel to the Select Security Stadium hoping to break into the top four.

Widnes make one change to their squad with Scottish forward Sam Brooks replacing the injured Hep Cahill, who will now sit out the next six weeks.

Salford have made two changes to their squad as Josh Jones and Lama Tasi come in replacing Ryan Lannon and Jake Bibby. The Red Devils are on a decent run, with three wins and three losses in the Super League this season and they will hope to get another win here against a desperate Widnes side.

Widnes Squad: Armstrong, Bridge, Brooks, Buchanan, J Chapelhow, T Chapelhow, Craven, Dudson, Hanbury, Heremaia, Houston, Johnstone, Leuluai, Marsh, Olbison, Runciman, Thompson, White, Whitley.
