Wardle heads back to Super League

Newcastle Knights and Scotland international centre/back-row forward Joe Wardle has signed for Castleford Tigers on a three-year deal.

Wardle has made 14 appearances for the Knights this season, scoring three tries but he will return to Super League next season to bolster the current table-toppers.

He joined the Knights from Huddersfield Giants to join former coach Nathan Brown but things haven’t worked out as well as he’d have liked and a return to Super League has been rumoured for the past few months.

Steve Gill had mentioned that an English forward would be joining the Tigers next season and Wardle fits the bill, as he was born in Halifax despite being a regular in the Scotland setup.

After scoring 62 tries in 141 appearances for the Giants, Castleford fans will be hoping he provides a similar contribution at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.
