Wane: Tomkins should be in England squad

Wigan head coach Shaun Wane says that his star full-back Sam Tomkins should be in England’s World Cup squad.

Tomkins spent the first four months of the season injured but has recently started to find top form.

While he was sidelined for the mid-season test against Samoa, Wayne Bennett opted to play Stefan Ratchford at full-back with fellow No 1 contender Zak Hardaker, who Tomkins will come up against this Sunday, in the centres.

Speaking to Wigan Today about Tomkins, Wane said: “I definitely think he should be back in there.

“It’s hard to say how important he is to our side because, for me, he is priceless. He has that will to win, he’s ultra-competitive.

“On top of that, his positioning is great and he’s added a lot to our attack – he’s got better each week. I think he’s been outstanding.”

“Zak’s a very good player. But if I was in charge of England, Sam would definitely be in my squad for the World Cup, too.”
