Wakefield’s new £12m Belle Vue

Wakefield Trinity have today agreed a £12m development of their current Belle Vue ground.

The news is a massive boost for the club after months of uncertainty that left the future of Wakefield’s only professional sports team in serious doubt.

Work on the new 10,000-seater stadium is expected to start next year with the aim to have the venue ready by the 2020 season.

The club are expected to stay at Belle Vue next season after the Council agreed to take out a new lease on the site with retail, residential and entertainment developments also planned.

A delighted Michael Carter told Starsport: “After some tense negotiations, we have agreed in principle a future ground for Wakefield Trinity.

“We are yet to agree all the minute details but have agreed with all parties that this will be finalised by October 31.

“If this proves to be satisfactory, then the club will stay at Belle Vue for 2018 and be in a new stadium as soon as possible.”
