Centurions 6/5 for first away win of the season

Higson high tackle

The Sky cameras are in Wakefield tonight where new boys Leigh Centurions are the visitors.

Most condemned Leigh to the middle 8’s before a ball had been kicked in anger this season, but three wins from their last four games, the only defeat being at Champions Wigan, have left the Leythers on a respectable six points from six games and odds on for a top eight finish.

As for the hosts, good wins over Salford and St Helens seemed to put Trinity on track but they were very poor last week getting thumped at Leeds, so they will be looking to put that horror show behind them.

Danny Kirmond escaped a ban for his high tackle against the Rhinos last week and plays but Glenn Stewart is banned for the visitors.

Super League sponsors Betfred are struggling to split these two and make Wakefield marginal 8/11 favourites to win this with the Centurions 6/5.

Both these teams seem to fare better on home territory so I think the value has to lie with the hosts.

Yes, Leigh have won three of their last four but all of their wins have been at the Leigh Sports Village and they have had two heavy defeats on the road, albeit against the top two Wigan and Castleford.

As for Wakefield, a narrow loss at home to Hull was followed by now what seems a very impressive win against Salford, so you feel they may just have too much for Neil Jukes men.

You can see it being a tight game though, in fact Leigh won on their last trip here in the cup in 2015. Kirmond escaping a ban will give Trinity a big boost and he could be worth a look on anytime try lists.

There shouldn’t be more than a try in it either way, in an entertaining high scoring game but I think Wakefield may just get home by 1-5 points. The value is probably in a home win by 1-12 points at 15/8.

If you’re backing Wakefield it may be safer to take them at 8/11 to win rather than conceding a 2-point start on the handicap, conversely Centurions backers may look to take the 2-point start on the handicap than the slightly increased match win odds.

Match win odds can be increased on the Half Time Full Time, Wakefield are 6/4 on this whilst Leigh are 15/8.

In a game where the lead could change hands I like the 6/1 for Leigh to be winning at Half Time and Wakefield to win at Full Time.

Three wingers in great form head first try lists, Tom Johnstone is the favourite at 13/2 and he scored a great try at Headingley last week. Whist Centurions pair Matty Dawson and Adam Higson are 15/2. Dawson in particular could be due a try.

Don’t forget Betfred double first try odds if your player goes on to score a 2nd try as Hock did in Leigh colours last week.

Finally the man of the match, whilst we have been nowhere near the picks have been deserved in the last few games, and we are getting away from the strange choices of earlier in the campaign.
