Visa wait for Saints signing Taia

Saints signing Taia

St Helens new signing Zeb Taia could be waiting up to a month before pulling on the famous Red V jersey as he and the club wait on his visa application.

Todd Carney waited seven weeks before having his visa approved ahead of a move to Salford, but Saints head coach Keiron Cunningham is confident of a quicker turnaround with Taia.

“Carney’s has taken seven weeks, but it is a bit more clear cut with Zeb. We are in the system now so we are hopeful that we might have him here within the next two or three weeks,” Cunningham told the St Helens Star.

When the 32-year-old does eventually arrive, he will have big shoes to fill in those of Joe Greenwood who has moved to the Gold Coast Titans as part of the deal.

Former Catalans forward Taia has been on Cunningham’s radar for some time and his arrival should add some much-needed fire power to the St Helens attack.

Saints will be hoping his arrival is sooner rather than later with tough fixtures against Hull FC, Catalans Dragons and Warrington Wolves at the end of next month.
