Top four destiny in our own hands says Walmsley

Hull FC 0-45 St Helens

St Helens prop forward Alex Walmsley says his side’s top four destiny is still in their own hands, heading into the Super 8s and tonight’s opening game against Castleford Tigers.

Saints currently sit in sixth place and one point shy of fourth-placed Salford Red Devils, with team morale in a good place under the guidance of Aussie coach Justin Holbrook.

However, Walmsley understands that everything is still to play for in the quest for a place in the semi-finals.

“Confidence is high at the moment but we are not confusing that with arrogance,” Walmsley told the St Helens Star.

“We certainly know it is going to be a tough period of the season and we are not counting any chickens.

“We are approaching games knowing we have to win games, we need to catch up some points.

“Four weeks ago people wrote us off after Leeds. But it has been that kind of year where any team in the top eight can make the four.

“We are happy with that – our destiny is in our own hands and we are not relying on other teams to do us favours.”
