Toovey: Bulls forwards need to match KR

Bradford Bulls boss Geoff Toovey has called upon his forwards to replicate their Summer Bash performance when they take on Hull Kingston Rovers at the Provident Stadium on Sunday.

Bradford, currently bottom of the Championship table, lost to the Robins by a single point at Blackpool as the West Yorkshire club stepped up to the challenge in front of them.

With every game as important as the next for the relegation-threatened Bulls, Toovey is wanting a strong performance from his side but especially in the forwards.

“No doubt they (KR) will be wanting to show their dominance early on in the game with the forwards, their main strength,” Toovey told the Bradford Bulls website

“So, we need to match them there if we want to have a chance of beating them.

“We’re at the bottom of the comp and they are at the top, it’s a bit of a mismatch.

“But saying that, last time we faced them at Blackpool our forwards stood up particularly well and did a fantastic job against their pack.”

Despite taking on the table-toppers, who have looked every inch a promotion contender during their first season back in the Championship, the  former Manly coach has confidence in his side and that they can pull off a shock victory ahead of the Championship Shield.

“Things need to go our way on the weekend for us to win and we are confident that we can make a win happen,” he added.

“You need that confidence to make that happen, you need confidence in this comp.

“I think we are in there with a chance, we will be the underdogs there is no denying that, but what a great way to prove yourself.

“The point of being the underdog is to beat those guys above you.”
