Tigers star banned for life – Reports

Tigers star facing ban for betting offences

Reports in Australia suggest that Wests Tigers player Tim Simona will be banned for life by the NRL who have evidence he was fixing matches.

The 25-year-old will meet on Friday to contest the charges, but it is believed the NRL is in possession of evidence that he was backing players he was marking to be the first try-scorer.

NRL Chief Executive Todd Greenberg came out last year stating that anyone caught match fixing would be banned for life and leading Australian journalist Paul Kent has reported that Simona’s career is over.

“It doesn’t matter. Simona has backed the opposition. It can’t get any worse,” Kent said. “There’s been a screenshot on a phone of him taking a bet.”

It remains to be seen whether the allegations are true, with the game in Australia handing out automatic life bans on any player caught match fixing from this day forward.
