PlayerCam to continue despite issues

Kurt Gidley retirement

Sky Sports will continue to use PlayerCam despite technical issues forcing Kurt Gidley to take it off at half-time in Warrington’s defeat to Leigh last night.

Rumours surfaced that the Wolves half-back felt uncomfortable and removed the vest on which the camera was mounted.

However, Sky Sports confirmed today it was their decision to remove the device with viewers told during the game that they were suffering technical issues.

Gidley and the Wolves suffered a bad day at the office with the 34-year-old taking a big hit in the first period that led to a Leigh try, and possibly the camera malfunction!

Sky Sports will now review the experiment but have confirmed that they will give PlayerCam another go in the coming week’s of Super League.

Whether they can get players to wear it though is another matter, with Australian Gidley admitting prior to the game that the device “painted a target” on him, and so it proved!
