Souths secure Burgess brothers

Sam Burgess sin bin

Fairfax Media are reporting that South Sydney have extended the contracts of Sam, Tom and George Burgess until the end of the 2019 season.

In just over a week on November 1, players coming off contract at the end of 2018 will become free agents and can discuss terms with other clubs.

With this bidding war on many team’s star players fast approaching, the Rabbitohs have been working hard to finalise deals for the three Englishmen.

It is understood that the news will be announced shortly, with Bunnies new coach Anthony Seibold looking to get the best out of the Burgess contingent next season and beyond.

Sam’s signature was particularly important to Souths who worked hard to bring him back to Redfern from Rugby Union in 2016.

His potential availability will have interested every club in the world, but it now seems he will continue in the red and green for at least the next two years.

Despite the Rabbits securing the future of the Burgess bros, a number of world class players have still yet to sign with their club beyond 2018 and will become available if a deal is not agreed before Wednesday week.

England hooker Josh Hodgson is one of those names and he will interest many NRL sides if Canberra can not come to an agreement with the former Hull KR star.
