Smith set for Catalans switch

St Helens have agreed an undisclosed fee with another Super League club , believed to be Catalans Dragons , for scrum half Matty Smith .

The former Salford and Wigan half has had his opportunities limited at the Totally Wicked Stadium this year and has been allowed to move on to secure regular first team rugby .

The French outfit are putting together a strong squad for 2019 as they look to build on this years Challenge Cup success .The former England International will link up at the Stade Gilbert Brutus with Michael Mcilorum and Sam Tomkins to rekindle the partnership that won the double at Wigan in 2013 and also Lewis Tierney with whom he won the Grand Final in 2016 . Smith won the Lance Todd Trophy at Wembley in 2013 and ended the season in the Super League Dream Team , he also played all 3 games in England’s 2014 Four Nations campaign .

Along with Wigan and St Helens Smith has also played for Salford and Celtic Crusaders and had a loan spell at Widnes .

The Dragons look likely to be a match for anyone next season and will be looking for glory at Old Trafford after their Wembley success last month .
