Slater’s future still unknown

Billy Slater has admitted he is still unsure whether he will play on in 2018, meaning this weekend’s semi-final clash against Brisbane could be the final 80 minutes of his NRL career.

The 34-year-old has been in excellent form this season since returning from a 12-month shoulder injury that many thought would end his playing days early.

Melbourne are still hopeful that Slater will put pen to paper on a new deal, but the superstar full-back may be tempted to bow out on a high this year should the Storm become Premiers.

“I’m just really enjoying the opportunity that I have got in front of me,” Slater said on Tuesday.

“The last two years in the finals series I have been wearing a suit and this year I will be wearing a playing kit – that is what I am enjoying and what I am focusing on – the now, not what happens next year.

“That will take care of itself in due course and the decision will be made, [when] I’m not too sure, but it hasn’t been made yet.”
