Scotland missing NRL stars in World Cup squad

Danny Brough will once again lead Scotland into the World Cup after Steve McCormack named his 24-man squad.

Despite a squad full of Super League talent, the Bravehearts have been left significantly weakened by injuries to four of their NRL stars.

Lachlan Coote, Kane Linnett, Peter Wallace and Euan Aitken are all missing, as is Liam Hood.

NRL players James Bell, Jarred Anderson and Lachlan Stein have been included for the first time, with Scotland looking to build on last year’s historic draw against New Zealand in the Four Nations.

Head coach Steve McCormack said: “We’ve got a big group of players – the likes of Brough, Douglas, Addy, Matty Russell, Kav – who I know well and trust.

“They have always been there for Scotland and given it their all. I know they will do that again and their experience is going to be vital to help the young lads. We’re under no illusions how tough it’s going to be, but I also know it’s going to be fantastic.”
