Rampant Red Devils hammer Huddersfield

Salford Red Devils 50-12 Catalans Dragons

Salford Red Devils were in fine form as they beat Huddersfield Giants 52-14 at the AJ Bell Stadium. Kris Welham and Manu Vatuvei both bagged braces for the hosts while the likes of Tyrone McCarthy, Niall Evalds and Jake Bibby all got on the scoresheet too. Jermaine McGillvary, Oliver Roberts and Ryan Hinchcliffe registered four pointers for Huddersfield.

The first points of the contest went the way of Salford as Gareth O’Brien kicked a penalty goal in the third minute. Soon after, Welham crossed for the game’s opening try and that got the ball rolling for the Red Devils. McCarthy and Vatuvei followed the former Bradford Bulls centre over the try line, with Salford stamping their authority on the match. Welham completed his brace before the half-time hooter, while Evalds and McGillvary exchanged scores.

After the restart, Vatuvei added his second score of the contest and things got even better for his side when Bibby showed some acrobatics to get Salford up to the 40 point mark. Roberts replied for the Giants as the game started to fizzle out, typified by a penalty goal from O’Brien in the final quarter. Ben Murdoch-Masila and Josh Jones scored their side’s eighth and ninth tries of the afternoon within ten minutes of each other as the final whistle loomed. In the dying embers of the contest, Hinchcliffe grabbed a consolation effort for Huddersfield on a majorly disappointing day for Rick Stone’s side.
