Radford frustrated with break

Lee Radford admitted he would have liked to have played another Super League match this weekend after his team battled to victory over Wakefield on Sunday.

Because of the World Club Series, those teams that finished in the top eight last year but failed to make the Grand Final have a week off after just one Super League game.

“It would have been nice to play again and get a little bit of momentum,” Radford said.

“There is nothing we can do about that though so we’ll get rested up and have a look at what Catalans will throw at us in a fortnight’s time.

“We play on the Thursday though so it’s a bit of a tricky one but we have got our plans, we’ll make sure we are prepared for the game.”

Having ended their 11-year silverware drought in 2016, the black and whites strengthened an already strong looking squad of players in the off-season.

Despite losing new signing Albert Kelly to suspension earlier today, competition for places is greater than ever with players such as Josh Bowden and Dean Hadley failing to get into the 17-man squad on Sunday.

“Competition is good, which you would expect at this time of the year,” Radford explained.

“The players will have a week off now with no contact so we will make training at the back end of this week a bit tasty. Everyone is eager to get a starting spot which can only be healthy.”
