Paul Gallen eyes Super League in 2018

With his contract set to expire at the end of 2017, Cronulla Sharks captain Paul Gallen has given a strong hint that he will play in Super League next season.

Speaking after the Sharks World Club Challenge defeat to Wigan, the 35-year-old told the media that he was unsure on his future beyond this year but Super League was a possibility.

“It’s always been a goal of mine to come over,” Gallen said.

“I have been on many tours over here and I love the fans and the atmosphere here is great. This is my last year in the NRL so we’ll just have to see what happens.”

With 32 caps for Australia, 24 Origin appearances and 281 NRL games under his belt, Gallen would bring a wealth of experience to any Super League side.

Despite his ageing years, the loose-forward has maintained his high level of his performances and would surely create a bidding war among Super League clubs should his services become available.

“I really don’t know what will happen,” explained Gallen.

“I haven’t spoken to my wife about it, but we’ll see what opportunities come up. Like I said, I love the game over here and playing in Super League is certainly something I would like to do.”
