New York team set to play in Super League?

The Daily Mail are reporting that a New York based team are aiming to follow in the footsteps of Toronto Wolfpack by joining the Rugby Football League.

Toronto’s CEO Eric Perez is leading the consortium who are believed to have submitted a business plan to the RFL last month.

Former Bradford and St Helens coach Mick Potter has been lined up to coach the team and with licensing set to return, they could go straight into Super League.

It is believed they will be backed by business associates of Australian tycoon David Argyle, with talks of basing franchises in Montreal, Chicago and Jacksonville.

The arrival of a team from New York in Super League will increase sponsorship opportunities and set the platform for the 2025 World Cup in America and Canada.
