McNamara to be Kiwis assistant

Former England and Bradford Bulls head coach Steve McNamara is set to become the assistant coach of New Zealand for the World Cup.

David Kidwell and the Kiwis are making changes to their backroom team ahead of the tournament with McNamara set to take provide valuable experience.

The 45-year-old is currently the assistant coach of the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL, working alongside former Kiwis head coach Stephen Kearney.

McNamara was named England coach in 2010, guiding his home nation to the World Cup semi-finals in 2013 and a Test victory over the Kiwis in 2015, before he was replaced by Wayne Bennett.

Now the former Hull and Great Britain forward could be masterminding the downfall of his countrymen in the semi-final of the 2017 World Cup, should both New Zealand and England progress that far.
