Maguire sacked from Souths post

South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire has been sacked following another poor season.

The former Wigan Warriors boss had been linked with a move to Warrington Wolves but it is believed he would rather stay in the NRL.

In his time at Wigan, he won all three domestic trophies in two seasons before moving back to Australia where he won the NRL Premiership with South Sydney.

“We feel it’s time for the club to go along a different path in terms of the leadership of the team and the direction the team is taking, and they are the responsibilities of the head coach,” said Souths CEO Shane Richardson.

“Michael also feels it’s in his best interest to head in a different direction in his coaching career.”

With Gold Coast Titans still looking for a coach after the departure of Neil Henry, it’s likely that Maguire will talk to the club.
