Reports suggest Magic Weekend 2019 could be switched from Newcastle to Liverpool as Liverpool FC have launched a late bid to host the event at Anfield .
The venue for 2019 has been subject to constant speculation , but after another successful 2 days in Newcastle in May it was thought that the event would stay at St James’ Park for at least another year .
Anfield is hosting the England v New Zealand International this weekend and Liverpool are keen to add another major rugby league event to the famous stadiums portfolio of sporting occasions .
It could be a controversial choice with fans as they are said to prefer the city centre location of St James’ and also the original venue in Cardiff . It is worth mentioning though that the Etihad in Manchester has also hosted successful Magic Weekends in the past and that is based outside of the centre , the transport links to Anfield may also be a problem for the Rugby League family .
Ticket sales for this weekends International have been quite slow so it would be interesting to see if the fans got behind the concept in one of the world’s most iconic stadia .
The RFL are keen to continue the magic concept in the future , whatever the league structure , the NRL are having a magic weekend of their own in Brisbane next season as they have been impressed by the success of the event in Super League .
We’d love to hear your views on where it should be held on our facebook or twitter pages .
