Luke Gale named Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel

Castleford Tigers half-back Luke Gale has been named the 2017 Steve Prescott Man of Steel at the annual awards evening in Manchester.

Gale, who was the strong favourite for the award, saw off competition from teammate Zak Hardaker and Hull FC stand-off Albert Kelly to claim the highest individual accolade of the year.

The 29-year-old has been the architect of the Tigers’ record-breaking season contributing 14 tries, 21 assists and 129 goals in 27 games.

Oliver Gildart was named Super League’s Young Player of the Year, beating St Helens duo Morgan Knowles and Regan Grace to the prestigious award.

Gildart has has been one of Wigan’s most consistent players through the 2017 season, scoring 11 tries and assisting 7 more.

Unsurprisingly, Daryl Powell claimed Coach of the Year with Wakefield Trinity’s Chris Chester runner-up.

Castleford Tigers were named Club of the Year and Wigan Warriors won Foundation of the Year

Other awards for the evening saw Alex Walmsley claim top metre-maker, Greg Eden top try-scorer, Marc Sneyd top gun and Danny Houghton hit man.
