Wakefield 11/4 to win at Headingley

Wakefield Trinity 24-22 Salford Red Devils Super League

There is a thrilling West Yorkshire derby on Sky tonight as Wakefield make the short trip to Headingley.

Trinity are on a roll after back-to-back wins whilst Leeds bounced back from the hammering at Cas to give Catalans a similar beating seven days ago.

The Rhinos have Brett Ferres and Mitch Garbutt back in the squad but Brad Singleton is banned; Chris Chester’s side are boosted by the return of Danny Kirmond, Ben Jones-Bishop and Joe Arundel.

Wakefield get a 10-point start from Super League sponsors Betfred on the handicap for this one and they should be full of confidence after two great wins.

Their impressive win at Saints was followed by the crazy win over Salford last week, a game that was nearly snatched away from them right at the end.

Trinity have had two wins and two defeats so far this season, but neither defeat was by more than the 10-points they get on the handicap today.

Leeds have had an average start to the season with three wins from five games and with only the win over Catalans last week being by more than 10 points, you have to think Wakefield can stay inside the handicap.

The Rhinos are slowly putting last year behind them and have yet to lose at home this year so they’ll be confident of justifying short odds of 3/10 to get the two points, but I think it will only be by around 6-10 points.

For all they won convincingly at home last week, they were a touch fortunate to beat Salford in their opening game at home three weeks ago.

Trinity fans can get 11/4 for their side to follow up the great win at Saints two weeks ago with a win tonight, but whilst that may just be beyond them, they can score enough points to stay inside the handicap.

Their fans though will be buoyed by the win at Headingley 10 months ago but that was against a Leeds side in free-fall.

There’s probably value in Leeds to win by 1-12 points at 7/4, and it’s 6/5 for the Rhinos to win by 13 or more points.

Betfred provide plenty of alternative handicaps; you can get 9/4 for Leeds to win by 19 points or more and it’s 11/8 Wakefield getting a lower 6-point start.

The 3/10 for the home side can be increased to 4/6 on the Half Time Full Time. The Leeds and Hull FC (who play Widnes at home) Half Time Full Time double pays just over 11/10 at Betfred.

It’s all Leeds at the top of the first try list and Ryan Hall is the market leader at 5/1, followed by Kallum Watkins at 6/1. The best value is Joel Moon at 9/1, as for Trinity it’s hard to see past 9/1 Tom Johnstone.

Don’t forget Betfred double your first try odds if your player goes on to score a second try as Gareth Hock did last night.

There is one other game tonight; Widnes seem to have all kind of injury problems but came away from Catalans with a creditable draw on their last away trip, the bookies right them off as 7/1 outsiders as they go to the KCOM Stadium.

They were badly beaten at home to Castleford last week, but there’s no disgrace in that at the moment and you would certainly think they can stay inside a very big 20-point handicap tonight.

The hosts are unbackable at 1/16 to follow up last week’s win against St Helens and whilst they should win comfortably, it may be by only around 11-15 points.

Extra game on Sky tomorrow due to the deal to cover Catalans home games as they take on a desperate Saints outfit.
