Leeds set to sign former Castleford youngster

Leeds Rhinos are set to announce the signing of former Castleford starlet Callum McLelland following a short stint in rugby union.

McLelland, 18, was considered one of the Tigers’ most promising talents but left the club less than a year ago to take up an offer with Edinburgh in the 15-man code as part of the Scottish Qualified Programme, which aims to recruit players eligible for Scotland who live outside the country.

However, the young halfback has reportedly struggled to adjust to life in union and is seeking a return to rugby league, with Leeds looking the likely destination.

Castleford were keen on bringing him back to The Jungle, but Leeds’ Director of Rugby Kevin Sinfield has seemingly persuaded him to resume his league career with the Rhinos from 2019 onwards.
