Jamie Acton banned for Greg Bird incident

Jamie Acton has been banned for 9 matches after he was found guilty of a Grade F offence by an independent operational rules tribunal.

Acton pleaded guilty but challenged the grading of the offence, the independent panel felt the grade was correct and also find the Centurions forward £300.

As he’s already missed 2 games Acton now has 7 games to serve meaning he will be able for the Centurions last game of the middle 8’s.

The Leigh Centurions forward was charged with ‘other contrary behaviour after grabbing the shirt of Catalans player Greg Bird, lifting him and then pushing him down as he lay injured on the floor.

After the case had been delayed twice to give Leigh extra time to prepare for the hearing, the outcome is a big blow to Neil Jukes ahead of the Qualifiers.

The Centurions have endured a difficult first season back in Super League and currently sit bottom of the table with just one regular season match remaining.
