Hoffman rejects Super League and returns home

Wigan head the chase for Hoffman

Ryan Hoffman will not be playing in Super League next season after signing with Melbourne for the third time in his career.

The 33-year-old had been linked with a return Wigan, who he played for in 2011, and Catalans Dragons.

However, Hoffman will head home for one final year with the Storm after three years playing for the New Zealand Warriors.

The former Australian international began his rugby league career with Melbourne back in 2003, going on to play 245 games and appear in five grand finals.

He will now have a chance to build on that success in 2018 and bow out in style after 16 years playing top-flight rugby league.

“He’s going to bring a lot of experience and a lot of leadership,” said Storm chief executive Dave Donaghy.

“Particularly in that period prior to Christmas where we’ll have a fair degree of leadership and experience missing — he’ll play a real key role there.”
