Hiku set to depart Wolves early for Warriors

Despite signing a contract until the end of 2019, it seems that Peta Hiku will cut short his time at Warrington to return to the NRL.

The 24-year-old only signed with the Wolves in June, but reports Down Under suggest he has been granted an early release to join the New Zealand Warriors.

It is believed that Hiku has already agreed terms and will begin a three-year deal with the Warriors next season.

During his short time in England, the former Manly and Penrith player has become a fan favourite at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

News on his exit is a blow for head coach Tony Smith, with Hiku playing a part in the club’s recent upturn in form after a disastrous season.

The Warriors have tried to sign Hiku on a number of occasions, including in 2014 when he turned down a million-dollar contract to stay at Manly.

However, it seems they have finally got their man with Warrington losing a player they expected big things from over the next two years.
