Halifax beat Hull KR to make the Qualifiers

Halifax have pipped Toulouse to a place in the Qualifiers with a 28-6 win against table-toppers Hull KR at the MBI Shay Stadium.

The pressure was on Fax after the French side produced a dramatic last-gasp win against Featherstone yesterday to initially leap-frog them into fourth.

However, knowing a point would be enough to seal their place in the Qualifiers, Fax produced one of their best performances of the season to finish above Featherstone in third.

All but four of the points in the match came in the first half as early scores from Ben Johnston and Kieren Moss had the game locked at 6-6 in the early stages.

The hosts turned up the pressure though as three quick tries from Ben Heaton, Will Sharp and Mikey Sio, combined with three conversions from Steve Tyrer, put Fax 24-6 up at the break.

In a close fought second half, KR were unable to breach the resolute Fax defence with two Tyrer penalty goals, one of which on the full-time hooter, sealing the important victory.

There were scenes of celebration at full-time as Halifax prepare themselves to face the likes of Warrington in the Qualifiers after their impressive end to the regular season.
