Widdop signs four-year Dragons deal

Gareth Widdop contract

Gareth Widdop has ended speculation over his future by signing a four-year contract with St George Illawarra Dragons.

The England international had been linked with a move to Super League with his current deal expiring at the end of the 2017 campaign.

However, his scintillating form at the start of the this season forced the Dragons to act quickly after Widdop’s former club Melbourne declared an interest in the 28-year-old.

“There’s a good environment here and it’s a good place to be so I wanted to play my part in that,” Widdop told the Dragons website.

“At this stage of my career it certainly was a big decision for my family. I have three young kids, I’m very settled here in Wollongong and I’m enjoying my time here.

“So while it was a big decision, I’m happy to be staying.”
