Five players charged by the RFL

Five players have been cited by the RFL’s Match Review Panel following the weekend’s games, but Alex Walmsley isn’t one of them.

Many believed the Saints prop would face disciplinary action for raising his arm while in possession of the ball during the match against Salford.

However, the Match Review Panel have deemed that he made a legitimate attempt to fend an opponent and will be available for Thursday’s semi-final against Castleford.

From the same game, Salford’s Ryan Lannon has been charged with Grade D striking for the incident that saw him sent off on Thursday at the AJ Bell Stadium.

With no Early Guilty Plea (EGP) available, Lannon is likely to face a lengthy ban that will carry over into the 2018 season.

Elsewhere, Jack Hughes and Lee Jewitt have both been cited for Grade B punching during the Qualifiers match between Warrington and Hull KR on Saturday.

The pair have their EGP’s available and risk missing the first few games of the 2018 season if found guilty.

In the Championship, Batley’s Joel Farrell (no EGP) is charged with Grade E striking with the elbow during yesterday’s game against Sheffield.

Finally, in League 1, Oxford’s James Cryer faces a Grade A charge for disputing a decision but is likely to escape suspension with his EGP still available.
