Final shot for Hardaker?

Daryl Powell has revealed that he has been in talks with Zak Hardaker about his future with the Super League runners-up.

Former Man of Steel, Hardaker, has previously been under scrutiny from the media after the controversial end to his time at Leeds. But it seems as though Castleford may be willing to give him a second chance to prove his worth.

In 2017, the Castleford full-back, was once again shortlisted for the Steve Prescott Man of Steel award after a fine season, but missed out on another Grand Final medal after it was revealed he had failed two drug tests, testing positive for cocaine.

He later released a statement apologising to the club and fans, marking it as a “enormous error of judgement” and it seems that Powell is looking to accept that apology as they converse about Zak’s future with the Tigers.

Asked if there was anything that could be said about Hardaker’s future, Powell said: “I have had a quick chat with Zak.

“I need to have another chat with him which I’ll try to do at some point this week.

“We don’t really know what it (potential ban) is going to be at the moment so we’ll wait and see what it’s going to be in the fullness of time.

“Then, both Zak and ourselves, will have a decision to make as we move forward.”

The club are waiting for the response of UKAD before making a full decision.

Hardaker was the third player to be tested positive for cocaine in just three months. Rangi Chase of the Widnes Vikings was banned for two years by UKAD on November 23rd. Wakefield’s Adam Walker is also awaiting a punishment confirmation from UKAD.
