Toulouse Olympique 16-36 London Broncos

Report

London Broncos made history by becoming the first team in over two years to beat Toulouse Olympique in a league match at Stade Ernest Argeles. And they did so in some style. The Broncos, following an ultra professional first half, beat Olympique 36-16 thanks to a brace from Kieran Dixon as well as try-scoring contributions from half-backs Jarrod Sammut and Api Pewhairangi.

The capital club kept Toulouse to a blank in the first half as they defended valiantly while also posting three tries in the process. Andy Ackers broke the deadlock after 15 minutes, the former Swinton Lion’s return from injury has come at a great time for the in-form Broncos. Dixon converted, and he did so once again in the moments after Sammut’s try. The final four pointer of the first period went to back-rower Daniel Harrison, who has been consistently good for London this season. Dixon was off target with the conversion but there were no complaints from the visiting camp, who went into the break 16-0 to the good.

In the second period, Alex Walker and Dixon both notched quick-fire four pointers to extend their side’s lead to 26 points following the latter’s lone conversion. Olympique finally got on the scoreboard with the final quarter looming as Bastien Canet touched down for the French club. Any chance of a comeback was put to rest when Dixon and Pewhairangi crossed the whitewash to seal the victory for London, who made it nine wins from their last nine games. Kalausa Leha and Canet registered consolations for Toulouse in the dying embers of the game but nothing could dampen the mood of the London players who had created a little piece of history.
