Salford Red Devils 50-12 Catalans Dragons

Report

Salford continued their fine season with a comprehensive 50-12 victory over a lacklustre Catalans side at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Nine different players notched up four-pointers for the Red Devils as they turned on the style against a Dragons side clearly lacking in confidence.

Gareth O’Brien opened the scoring, stepping inside some poor defence from the French outfit to continue his great campaign to date.

It was O’Brien causing the problems again a few minutes later as he found another gap, racing clear before the ball was moved wide for Josh Jones to crash over.

Debutant James Hasson was sin binned for a high tackle but this didn’t affect Ian Watson’s men, Kris Welham grabbing their third try of the game after a brilliant offload from Ben Murdoch-Masila.

Now with momentum, Catalans were struggling to cope as Jones did brilliantly down the left-hand side with the supporting Niall Evalds able to add another four-pointer.

There was time for one more try before half-time, Ryan Lannon finished off an incredible play that saw Salford keep the ball alive and the patience paid off with the forward crossing to make it 28-0.

The second half started much like the first ended with Salford scoring another try, this time hooker Kris Brining produced an incredible solo score as he beat four defenders to cross.

Catalans got their first points of the game thanks to Vincent Duport but normal service was resumed when Robert Lui raced 95 metres to score another try for the Red Devils.

Now leading 40-6, Salford were in cruise control and they exploited some more terrible defence when Olsi Krasniqi smashed through to score from half way.

Mark Flanagan became Salford’s ninth try scorer of the night to take the points tally up to the half century before a late consolation from Fouad Yaha.

The final score of 50-12 underlined the current gap between these two teams as Catalans began life without Laurent Frayssinous with an embarrassing defeat.
