Leigh Centurions 30-0 Huddersfield Giants

Report

Leigh Centurions picked up their second win since their return to Super League with an impressive victory over an off-colour Huddersfield Giants at Leigh Sports Village on Friday.

Tries from Adam Higson and Jamie Acton, both converted by Ben Reynolds, got Leigh on the way in the first half.

Danny Tickle, Reynolds and Sam Hopkins all went over in the second half, while continuing to hold out the Giants attack with some solid goal-line work.

Defeat means the Giants have conceded 78 points in losing back-to-back games.

In the opening ten minutes there were some good spells of pressure from the Giants, but Leigh defended their line well.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 15th minute when quick hands across the field saw Higson cross the line. Reynolds scored the conversion, 6-0.

Mistakes and great defence from both sides saw the score remain 6-0 until the 37th minute when Acton muscled his way over the line extending the home side’s lead. Reynolds added the extras, 12-0.

The second half began much like the first with both sides enjoying attacking spells.

Shannon Wakeman went close to getting over the line for the Giants after a Danny Brough offload, but Leigh were strong in defence.

Sebastine Ikahihifo and Acton were both sent to the sin bin after an on-field altercation.

Leigh were awarded a penalty three minutes later. Reynolds opted for the two points  and missed.

Tickle extended Leigh’s lead when he scored with eight minutes remaining. Reynolds added the extras from in front of the posts, 18-0.

Reynolds was in next for Leigh when he was found in space and was able to run through and score. Reynolds converted his own try, 24-0.

Hopkins then finished the game off in style for Leigh with another try, Reynolds once again continuing his accurate kicking.

The final hooter went and Leigh had secured their second Super League win of the season, hammering the Giants without conceding a single point.
