Leigh Centurions 26-37 Catalans Dragons

Report

Catalans got a much-needed win at the Leigh Sports Village as they stopped the rot of four consecutive defeats.

It was a disappointing night for Neil Jukes’ side who collapsed in the first half, with returning Dragons full-back Tony Gigot marking his comeback with a try.

Leigh registered the first points of the game through a Ben Reynolds penalty goal, but this would be the only time they had the lead.

Catalans scored a try with their first attack through Iain Thornley, before Brayden Wiliame and Krisnan Inu crossed to stun the home crowd.

Not content with their lead, the Perpignan club turned on the style as Louis Anderson finished off a fine flowing move for try number four.

Having been heavily involved in most of the Dragons tries, Richie Myler got his name on the scoresheet to take the score out to 28-2.

Curtis Naughton crossed for the Centurions just before half-time in what was a tough first 40 for Neil Jukes side, who went into the sheds with a 20-point deficit.

Leigh came back out for the second half and scored the first try, Dayne Weston crashing over to give the home fans hope.

This was short lived though as the returning Gigot got his comeback try, with Luke Walsh adding another conversion and penalty goal to take the score to 36-14.

A Walsh drop-goal was sandwiched in between Centurions’ tries from Gregg McNally and Sam Hopkins, but it was too little too late.

Leigh finished the match strongly but the damage was done in the first half as Catalans picked up their first win in five, prevailing 37-24 at the Leigh Sports Village.
