Leigh Centurions 10-24 Hull FC

Salford Red Devils 10-34 Hull FC

Report

Round 10 of the Betfred Super League saw Leigh Centurions play Hull FC in a hectic Easter weekend schedule.

Both sides suffered Good Friday defeats; FC were humiliated 24-52 by Leeds Rhinos, while Leigh were narrowly edged out 12 – 6 by Salford Red Devils.

After a scrappy opening, the Airlie Birds got on the score board first as Marc Sneyd attacked the line, feeding Liam Watts with a short pass for the forward to go in (18), Sneyd adding the extras: 0-6.

Hull continued to dominate and Sneyd was the architect again as he passed an early ball to the returning Carlos Tuimavave, who showed great footwork to find a way over the line (23), Sneyd converting: 0-12.

The Centurions found themselves unable to stop the away side’s gathering momentum and FC scored another after great work from Marc Sneyd. A quick scoot & grubber kick near the line from the scrum-half found Albert Kelly in space to touch down (28), Sneyd expertly kicking from out wide: 0-18.

Leigh were able to rally in the final 10 minutes of the first-half but Hull resisted with strong line defence leaving the half-time scoreline at 0-18 to the Black & Whites.

After initial pressure from the Centurions in the second-half, Hull extended their lead after a fantastic break from young hooker Jez Litten, who released Tuimavave into space to score his second try of the game (53), Sneyd converting to make it 0-24.

Leigh finally responded when FC gifted possession to the home side and after a series of offloads, Liam Hood managed to score (64), Ben Reynolds adding the two points: 6-24.

The home side were able to strike again after smart play by Ben Crooks put Ryan Hampshire in on the right edge with a smart finish (73), Reynolds unable to convert from out wide: 10-24.

As the final minutes approached, smart game management from Sneyd allowed the Airlie Birds to hold on for a much-needed victory: 10-24 at full-time.
