Halifax will have to wait till next weekend to confirm their place in the top four despite their 28-8 win over Featherstone Rovers today. Toulouse Olympique picked up a shock victory at Hull Kingston Rovers to keep their hopes of a place in the Qualifiers alive.
The visitors opened the scoring through Brandon Moore but soon extended their advantage thanks to Mitch Cahalane. Two conversions from Steve Tyrer put Fax 12-0 up after 15 minutes. Featherstone answered back with a try from Misi Taulapapa, which went unconverted after Kyran Johnson fired wide. Tyrer added to his personal tally with two more goals before the end of the half as Richard Marshall’s men went into the break 16-4 to the good.
It was important for Halifax to get the first score of the second half and they did just that, minutes after Taulapapa had an effort ruled out for a forward pass. Ben Heaton got the four pointer for Fax but Tyrer couldn’t convert. In the final quarter, the visitors wrapped the win up as Tyrer kicked a penalty prior to Rob Worrincy running 80 metres to the try-line. Tyrer added the extras. Frankie Mariano posted a consolation try for the hosts, who were far from their best but Halifax capitalised perfectly. Unfortunately for Fax, they soon found out that Toulouse had won their game and now they have to face Hull KR on the last day of the season while Featherstone take on Olympique.
