Castleford Tigers 42-24 Wakefield Trinity

Report

A dominant first half display from Super League leaders Castleford saw them brush off local rivals Wakefield at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

Six tries in the first 40 minutes cemented the Tigers place at the top of the Super League table, however they did allow their opponents back into the game in the second period.

Daryl Powell’s side never looked in danger despite allowing Wakefield to register the first points of the game through David Fifita.

From then on it was all about the home side with Jake Webster and Grant Millington crossing twice, combined with scores from Ben Roberts and Oliver Holmes.

Bill Tupou also crossed in the first half but they went into the sheds trailing 36-12 as they were unable to cope with the speed and power of Castleford across the park.

It was a much improved second 40 from Trinity who won the second half 12-6 thanks to another try from Fifita and a spectacular finish from Ben Jones-Bishop.

Greg Eden’s 12th try of the season was the only four-pointer of the second half for the hosts who noticeably took their foot off the gas with a considerable drop in their intensity.

Whether this was intended or not from Powell’s men with another game on Monday, they never looked in danger of letting the game slip and again showed glimpses of class.

The Tigers have still only lost one match this season and travel to Langtree Park in a couple of days, meanwhile their West Yorkshire rivals Wakefield host Wigan.
