Evalds out with a broken leg

Salford Red Devils have confirmed the fullback Niall Evalds suffered a broken leg in their defeat to Huddersfield last Friday.

It isn’t yet known how long the 24-year-old will be out for, but he is now set to miss the England Knights’ Autumn tour to Papua New Guinea later this year.

Evalds scored seven tries in 15 games this season before he suffered the injury, to add to 60 in 89 games previously during his Salford career.

Salford coach Ian Watson said: “Obviously losing Niall is a blow for us, he’s been terrific so far this season in attack and defensively with his backfield play.

“However, I’m confident with the players that I have at my disposal we can adjust and continue to perform while Niall is sidelined.

“This creates a chance for other players in the squad to now step in and grasp their opportunity with both hands.”
