Eden joint favourite for Steve Prescott Trophy

Leigh Centurions 0-38 Castleford Tigers

Online bookmakers Betway make flying Castleford winger Greg Eden an 11/8 joint favourite to be crowned man of steel.

5 tries against Warrington yesterday has put Eden on 30 tries for the season already, 12 ahead of Liam Marshall who is 2nd on the try scoring charts. His odds have been slashed from around 50/1 at the start of the season .

Eden is only 10 tries behind the mark set by Denny Solomona last year and we are only on week 18 of 30.
The ex Robin has scored a succession of hat tricks this year including one against Leeds at magic weekend and this has prompted Betway to slash his odds to pick up the award now named to Steve Prescott Trophy, in the  awards night the week before the Grand Final.

History is against Eden with only one winger, Pat Richards in 2010, winning the award in the Super League era.
Joint favourite with him is his clubmate,  the heavily backed Luke Gale.
Gale has been key in helping Castleford take the competition by storm this year, and is joint 2nd in assists with 16, 7 behind George Williams who is 22/1.
Gale though has also kicked 80 goals to total over 200 points so far this season in Super League.

The Tigers, who are 6 points clear at the top of the table, have the 1st 5 in the betting with Hardaker at 6/1 Sene-Lefoa at 12/1 and Ben Roberts at 14/1.
Next up is Albert Kelly at 16/1 who has 17 tries to his name so far this and 7 assists.
Matt Parcell of Leeds is an interesting 20/1 in the betting but it is very hard to see past the 1st 2 in the betting.

Looking at the past records of wingers in this the value still lies with Gale, it’s worth noting that Richards also kicked 136 goals for Wigan in 2010, but a few more hat tricks as we go into the Super 8’s could tip it Edens way.
George Williams does look big at 22/1 too given Wigan have players coming back and a late surge in the Super 8 could put him at least in the final 3.

Cas centre Michael Shenton is quoted at 22/1 to win the award, but even though he has contributed to alot of Edens tries this year his assists are less than that of Gale.
