Salford owner Marwan Koukash has revealed the club have signed Derrell Olpherts from Newcastle Thunder from 2018.

The prolific full-back, who previously played for Hemel Stags and Dewsbury Rams, has scored 14 tries in 15 games this season.

Olpherts is able to play all along the three quarter line and possesses explosive pace and an ability to cross the gainline, making him a dangerous addition.

Speaking to the club’s website, Salford head coach Ian Watson was delighted to secure the services of the 25-year-old.

“We’re really excited to have captured his signature,” he said. “There were a few other big Super League Clubs trying to sign him so we’re delighted that he’s decided that his future is here.

“He is a strong powerful runner who can play in the outside backs, and he backs this part of his game up with his defence.

“He’s got a great try scoring record and deserves the chance to have a crack in Super League, he’s got huge potential.”
