Defence worries Frayssinous

Catalans sack Frayssinous

Catalans head coach Laurent Frayssinous was heavily critical of his sides defensive display in yesterday’s 43-26 defeat against Castleford.

The Dragons raced into a 14-point lead after just 10 minutes but they were unable to defend their advantage and eventually conceded seven tries against the Tigers.

It’s a third defeat in a row for the French outfit after they were hammered in their last away match against Leeds, and Frayssinous lamented his sides poor defence at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

“We made a great start but for 80 minutes in defence we were not good enough,” he said.

“If you look at the first 15 minutes we fought on the ground to win penalties, we showed great aggression and scored some great tries.

“But on the back of that we gave away too much yardage and couldn’t defend. It’s frustrating to concede so many points.”

Catalans return to Perpignan next weekend to host Wakefield, they will be hoping to end a four-match winless run that started with a draw against struggling Widnes in early March.
