Castleford expect new stadium move by 2020

Castleford crowd trouble

Speaking to the Super League Show, Castleford Tigers chief executive Steve Gill says he expects the club to move into their new Five Towns Park Stadium by 2020.

The initial plan was to have the current Super League leaders in their new home for the start of 2019, but it’s now expected they will make the move ahead of the 2020 season.

In a huge boost to the town, the new £135m development includes retail and leisure facilities and Gill explained that “there has been a lot of work gone in.”

He added: “The plans were drawn up four years ago, millions of pounds have already been invested, and I think by 2020 we’ll be in our new stadium.

“We see ourselves as a top-four side in the making now. We can get to the new ground and get the revenue in from hospitality by opening 365 days a year. That’s what has been holding us back.”
