Burgess twins demoted to reserve grade

Burgess twins

It’s been a tough start to the season for Tom and George Burgess with the twins set to be playing reserve grade for North Sydney this weekend.

In 2014, George burst onto the NRL scene and was widely regarded as one of the best props in the world, helping South Sydney win their long-awaited Premiership.

Meanwhile Tom also played his part in the success, emerging as one of the club’s brightest prospects for the future off the substitutes bench.

However, the last two season’s have seen the pair struggle to live up to their former glories and Rabbitohs’ Head Coach Michael Maguire has now axed the 24-year-old’s.

While Tom played against Wests Tigers last Friday, he hasn’t been named at all for this weekend’s match against Manly Sea Eagles.

George was left out of the side for round 1 and although he as been named in the 21-man squad this week, he is outside the top 17 and unlikely to feature.

The twins will now play in the Intrust Super Premiership for North Sydney hoping to impress enough to force their way back into the Bunnies starting squad.

This may just be the incentive the pair need to return to top form as the pressure mounts to be playing first grade Rugby League in a World Cup year.
