Brisbane sign Super League forward

Rugby League mistake

Warrington Wolves’ Andre Savelio will join NRL’s Brisbane Broncos at the end of the season on a two-year deal.

Billed as the English Sonny Bill Williams in a recent article on an Australian website, the 22-year-old will arrive Down Under with high hopes.

Savelio has played 63 games in Super League for St Helens and Warrington and now he will get a chance to have a crack at the NRL, like fellow forwards Sam Burgess and James Graham to name just two.

The former Saint thinks the time is right for a move to the NRL.

“I have spoken to Brisbane a few times and I just thought now was the time as I feel more than ready to do it,” Savelio told the Brisbane Broncos website.

“A lot of English forwards have done well in the NRL, so it was always something I had thought about.

“And I always thought the Broncos would be the team I wanted to go to if I did do it.”

Brisbane CEO Paul White added that Savelio will help bolster the forward pack at the Broncos.

“Andre is a strong young forward and we have seen first-hand what he can do on the field in England,” he said.

“He is an exciting young prospect that will add depth to our forward stocks.

“We welcome Andre into the Broncos’ family and look forward to him joining the club at the conclusion of his commitments this season.”
